These missions are intended to represent all missions involving Hornets during a rapidly developing Korean conflict, i.e. they do not represent the career of one pilot.

I recommend flying all missions in turn rather repeating one mission until a 'mission successful' is obtained. The missions have been tested with difficulty settings on default, but without a 3Dfx card. I have no idea if the use of a card will affect the missions, many of which have carefully timed elements in them. (I have briefly tested all missions on maximum settings & found many were easier......stange but true.) The missions are detailed, using all of the available aircraft (though not all are agressive). A number of techniques have been used to introduce variables into missions, however I have tried to ensure that they will ALWAYS be playable, & hopefully not often too easy!

Mission briefings tell you of your roll & other friendly assets you may encounter. Mission notes give you the background on the developing situation, & some idea of the enemies expected response.

The following notes are taken from the notes & briefings provided with the missions, with some additional info in places.

11 - SOS

Since the surprise attack on the South & the almost total elimination of their airforce the UN has attempted to pull together a coalition force to protect the South. As the only air asset in the region your carrier is heading to Korea.
News comes in......6 Hornets & 2 F14s are to transfer to Seoul Int. as rapid response units, helping to enforce a UN "no fly zone". The South's only operational aircraft are at Chuncheon, & only 3 SAM sites are functioning, (2 are at Seoul, 1 at Chuncheon).

05:40 Haze. Enterprise. You are transferring to Seoul as part of a UN peacekeeping force, its a long hop but you will only have limited space for fuel: Until resupplied from the carrier Seoul has no AMRAAMS or HARMs.
AWACs have detected bandits approaching Seoul. Join 2 airborne F14s & attempt to intercept the incoming bandits. If their target is Seoul they may be over it before you. Do all you can to prevent any damage.
Recover at Seoul Int. with H2&3. Your Hornet must survive, & all bombers must be destroyed for a successful mission. Loadout: SWx2 120x4 88x2 Fuelx1.

12 - Hind Sights

F14s from the carrier & Dongducheon are attempting to provide aircover south of the 38th parallel. Chuncheon has the remains of the South's airforce. Early warning radar is down & AWACs cover is less than 100% over parts of Korea. Hornets from Seoul & the Enterprise are providing Seoul & the South's armed forces with cover from air attack.

08:10 Haze. Seoul Int. Motorized units of the North have pushed deep into the South. Units have been located at Waypoint 1, destroy enemy ground units & any Hinds supporting them. Watch out for Enemy CAS operations. Check IFF on all units. 2 F14s will provide aircover. H2 is attacking Hinds & H3 will join you attacking ground units.
Recover at Seoul. Loadout:SWx2 120x2 88x2 65Bx2 CBUx2

13 - First Aid

The North are putting pressure on in the East, where the remaining units of the South's airforce are based at Chuncheon. Until reinforcements arrive our concern is to protect Seoul & our assets. The North have extensive air defences in place, avoid penetrating their airspace.

10:40. Seoul Int. Haze. Chuncheon Airbase has just been attacked, & the remains of the South's airforce were unable to defend it. 2 Sea Knights are leaving Seoul Int with medics you are to provide air cover for them & 2 that are transferring casualties from Chuncheon to Seoul. 2 F14s will also be performing a CAP. Additional support will come from Dongducheon if needed.
Recover at Seoul. Loadout: SWx2 120x2 88x2 Fuelx3.

14 - Home Base

Although the North's airforce has been suffering loses it is still powerful & capable of launching sustained attacks against the South. Until reinforcements arrive we can do little but attempt to hold our position.

12:20. Seoul Int. Haze. AWACs cover has been disrupted, & base radar has detected an enemy attack group approaching. Launch & Intercept. All attacking aircraft must be destroyed & no damage can occur to friendly assets for a successful mission.
Recover at Seoul Int, if the base is damaged consider diverting to Seoul Municipal. Loadout: SWx2 120x4 Fuelx2

15 - Sweet 16s

Chuncheon is to become a temporary base for your squadron, together with Airforce F16s. The first F16s are inbound, your flight will cover their arrival. The North are continuing to conduct raids against the South's airbases, also be aware that there are numerous SAM sites north of the border. Do not venture North.

15:20. Overcast. Seoul Int. The first F16s are arriving at Chuncheon. They will have refuelled in flight, but are only lightly armed. You launch with H 2 & 3, to provide aircover as they land. All F16s must land safely for a successful mission. Recover at Chuncheon, Wpt 2. Loadout:SWx2 120x4 88x2 EXTx1

16 - High Spirits

The North's Command & Control infrastructure has been attacked by cruise missiles from the carrier's battlegroup. The NKAF has recently lost a number of TU-20s & SU27s. Their southern most airbases must be put out of action as the battle for air supremacy begins. Your SEAD will enable raids to run throughout the night. F14s should intercept any air threats, but be alert to any fighters scrambling from nearby bases.

17:50 Haze. Chuncheon. Waypoints 1,2 & 3 are known SAM sites, there may be more. A drone has been launched to attract the attention of SAM radar. When they illuminate you attack them. Let Hornet 2 hit Wpt 1. You follow him to the wpt, then take Wpts 2&3. B-2s are flying in to bomb Kaesong & Ichon airbases, give them low cover between Waypoints 3 & 4, as the sky will still be quite light. DO NOT join formation with the B2s! Two F14s are on CAP. A successful mission will only be achieved if all B-2s land.
Recover at Dongducheon, (Wpt 5). Loadout: SWx2 120x2 88x4

17 - Seoul Train

Whilst at Dongducheon you are part of the first line of defence for Seoul. You will have little warning of launches from Kaesong & Ichon. These bases are high priorities for bombers & cruise missiles tonight. However both bases still seem to be active at present.

20:40 Haze. Dongducheon. Intelligence gathered from an NK pilot suggests a major strike against Seoul this evening. With heavy losses of TU20s & damage to many airfields this could be made by MiG27 or SU27s in a strike role.

A launch has been detected, & F14s on patrol are intercepting. Launch with H2&3 to assist.
Recover at Dongducheon. Loadout SWx2 120x4 88x2 fuelx2.

21 - Maeng San Strike

Damage assessment of the overnight raids on enemy bases is still awaited. Intel reports SU27s moved north & MiG21s have moved to the frontline bases. Your attack on Maeng San is intended to keep the Flankers grounded. NOTE: When following H3 keep a constant check on speed & altitude, & regularly check distance to next Wpt. Don't get distracted at the target, take out that runway.

5:30 Clear. Dongducheon. A strike against Maeng San Airbase (Wpt 2). Buddy spike H3 & follow NOE along the river valley. He will avoid Singye bridge defences. At wpt 9 climb to 6k & prepare for the bombing run against the main runway, take out any AAA on approach. You attack the runway with BLU-107Bs & structures / aircraft with Mk82s. Let H2 attack SAMs & H3 attack fighters, unless they need help. WATCH YOUR FUEL. Regroup after your attack.
Recover on the carrier (Wpt 3). Loadout: SWx2 120x2 88x2 82x2 BLU107Bx2.

22 - Tom & Jerry

The NKAFs ability to launch strikes appears to have been reduced, however we are still a long way short of air superiority. Flankers are getting rarer, but many MiG21 & 23 aircraft have replaced them....

10.00. Haze. Enterprise. Take off with H2 & 2 Tomcats for an East-West CAP. Any enemy fighters encountered must be destroyed, & friendly assets protected. Two F16s are flying a SEAD mission nearby, check IFF.
Recover at Chuncheon, Wpt 3. Loadout: SWx2 120x4 88x2 Fuelx1.

23 - Rail Strike

SU27 loses are high, MiG21s are being brought south in increasing numbers. Some of these pilots have little experience. Intel reports suggest the NKAF are low on Radar guided AA missiles. Hyon Ni base is still active & causing problems to friendly units, however NKAF early warning radars have been destroyed. Allied loses are unacceptably high, ensure no B52s are lost.

12.20: Chuncheon: Haze. B52s are bombing a rail depot & nearby Hyon Ni airbase, supported by A10s flying SEAD. Take off with H2 & 3 to provide aircover. Meet the main package at Wpt 1, 20k, get visual ID. Ensure all B52s return. Recover on the carrier, Wpt 3. Loadout: 120x4 SWx2 Fuelx2.

24 - Rescue Cover

Thanks to the work of the rescue helicopter crews few pilots have fallen into enemy hands.

The first wave of attacks on Kaesong is underway, a joint attack with Marine Hornets bombing & USAF F16s providing aircover/SEAD. A ground attack will follow up once the defences have been destroyed.

14.30. Overcast. Enterprise. The attack on Kaesong has gone badly wrong, the strength of the defences had been underestimated. Several pilots are in the water & a rescue mission is underway. Fly cover for the helos with H2&3, attack enemy gunships known to be approaching one pilot & assist friendly aircraft already in the air. Follow the wpts until you get a 'mission successful', indicating that the helos are safe. Recover on the carrier. Loadout:SWx2 120x4 88x2 Fuelx1

25 - Flat Flankers

The NKAF has suffered alot of damage & this strike will reduce their ability to carry out repairs. They are conducting fewer CAPs & appear to have stopped daylight raids on the South. Allied daylight raids with B52s have been suspended due to losses. Stealth attacks continue to be night only. This means that multi role aircraft such as the Hornet will be responsible for any daylight raids.

16.00. Fog. Enterprise. Launch with H2 & 3 for a strike against an aircraft repair workshop at Wpt2. Recover on the carrier. H2 is providing aircover, H3 flies SEAD. Your targets are the eastern hangers, (furthest away on approach), containing the Flanker workshops. Follow the Wpts in. An allied strike against Kaesong will be underway on your return. Recover on the carrier, via wpt3.
Loadout:SWx2 120x2 AGM-62x2 88x2 Fuelx1

26 - Sinking SAMs

Intel reports show that a small convoy of ships have avoided the naval blockade & are approaching the harbour. These ships are believed to be carrying supplies of SAM & AA missiles purchased before the invasion. It is essential that the restock does'nt take place.

18:00 Obscured. Enterprise. Two B52s are heading to an enemy harbour in the north west. Ships suspected of carrying SAM & Scud missiles are in the estuary. An F117 is bombing rail links at the harbour, F16s are conducting a SEAD in the area & F14s are launching to accompany them. You bomb ships near Wpt 2, using FLIR to acquire targets, H2 is flying SEAD. Then to Wpt 3 & help provide air cover for the B52s.
Recover on the carrier (Wpt 0). Loadout: SWx2 120x1 FLIRx1 84Lx4 Fuelx1.

27 - Night CAP

NKAF activity has been reduced, there have been no daylight raids, however they may try to mount an offensive during the night. Intel reports indicate that they are low on AA radar missiles, & pilots have reported contacts with MIGs armed only with guns. SAM defences have been degraded, but the threat still exists.

21.30 Enterprise. Fog. Launch from the Carrier with H2 & 3, conduct a night CAP, 10k' between Wpts 1 & 2. (3 F16s from Chuncheon are conducting a SEAD). Stealth bombing raids are underway. Check IFF on all contacts.
Recover on the carrier. Loadout: SWx2 120x4 88x2 Fuelx1.

31 - Night Moves

The NKAF have attempted 2 small raids so far, both have failed - 2 MiG27s escaped to the north after the latest. Hyon Ni is still active & NKAF CAP missions have been operating further north.

04:20. Clear. Enterprise. Enemy vehicles are moving from a fuel depot destroyed in the night. Destroy all vehicles, but check IFF, friendly units are nearby. F16s from Chuncheon will launch if any enemy activity is detected.
Recover on the carrier. Loadout: SWx2 120x2 65Bx4 Fuelx1

32 - Transfer Fees

Just before Kaesong airbase was captured the NKAF transferred their MiG21s to Hyon Ni. They may try to do the same now that Hyon Ni is threatened, either moving to Ichon or Maeng San.

05:50. Haze. Enterprise. You are due to transfer to Chuncheon with H2 & 3, but launches have been detected from Hyon Ni. These are most likely MIG21s moving North to avoid the bombardment of their base, however A10s are operating nearby, so intercept (Wpt 1).
Recover at Chuncheon (Wpt 2). Loadout:SWx6 120x2 88x2 Fuelx1.

33 - Warthog Day

The ground war is advancing into NK. We have taken Kaesong, now the attack on Hyon Ni is about to intensify.

10:20 Clear. Chuncheon. A10s are attacking Hyon Ni & a nearby encampment. You are escorting them with H2 & 3. Approach Hyon Ni from Wpt 2, & destroy any helos & aircraft on the ground, use CBUs. Many aircraft have already left Hyon Ni, so air defences should be light. Then attack southern buildings at the encampment with AGM65s. A10s & H4 will attack tanks.
Regroup at Wpt 4 then return to Carrier (Wpt 5). Loadout: SWx2, 120x2, AGM65x4 CBUx2.

34 - Space Saver

We are now able to conduct daytime strikes against targets previously too well defended. NKAF response is erratic, however SAM & AAA threats are still present.

14:20. Clear. Enterprise. Your target is a space centre (wpt1). Launch with H2 & 3, who are striking the launch site. Your task is to hit the Satellite dish, use FLIR to acquire & Mk83LGB. Target is on the west side of the island. 2 F16s are on a SEAD mission ahead of you. Use any available weapon if they miss any SAM sites.
Recover on the carrier. Loadout: SWx2 120x3 FLIRx1 Mk83LGBx2 Fuelx1.

35 - No Nukes

We have sufficient control of the skies to allow daytime bombing raids by B52s, as long as they can be escorted to & from the target. We now have sufficient capacity to strike against the North's ability to produce nuclear & chemical weapons.

17:50. Overcast. Enterprise. Your target is an enemy Nuclear Plant (wpt 1), located on an island near Maeng San airbase. This will be a nuclear strike from 20k'. H2&3 will provide cover. Note: A B52 strike is underway on Maeng San, supported by F16s, assist if needed. Do not let the B52s return unescorted, if all F16s are downed escort the B52s to Chuncheon, refuel & return to the carrier. Loadout: SWx2 120x2 88x2 B57x2 Fuelx1.

36 - Safe Passage

A UN peace negotiating team is en route for Korea. NK ground forces are in retreat, & we have control of the skies, although the NKAF are still taking to the air they are no longer a serious threat. This should all be over soon......

22:10. Haze. Enterprise. 2 civilian aircraft are heading for Seoul Int. Take off & contact the aircraft at 30k' wpt 1. Join formation with them & escort to wpt 2 & then on to Seoul Int. (wpt3). H2&3 will also be flying CAP in the area. DO NOT leave the formation unless H2 calls a contact. If this happens follow the vector & assist in engaging the bandits.
Recover at Seoul Int. Loadout: SWx2 120x4 Fuelx2.

The following notes detail some of the features in certain missions: You may want to read them after flying, but before watching replays - I have carefully engineered some events to provide entertaining replays.

Seoul Survivor: check the enemy view at the start - 3 Flankers fly SEAD, one of them bombs SAM sites to ensure a kill. 3 bears carpet bomb from altitude. There are some variables so their success varies.

High Spirits: As the B2s split for their final approach to targets watch the Bears on the ground. With no radar contacts they prepare to move to northern bases - one gets damaged on takeoff.

Maeng San Strike: While checking out your low level formation flying also see the other aircraft engaging in another parts of the theatre.

Night Moves: Right at the start select the first enemy view, a pair of MiG27s are coming in low on fuel & out of luck! - Stealth technology......

No Nukes: Watch the ground units or any aircraft on the ground at Maeng San as the B52s begin their bomb run.
